As a first-time mom, babywearing made me feel like I could have a little bit of independence while still giving my baby the closeness we both wanted. I could make myself breakfast, walk the dog, get things done around the house, and even enjoy some time outside. I’ve written before about how babywearing helped me feel like myself again, but one carrier has become the one I reach for most often: the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier.
After using it regularly, washing it, traveling with it, wearing my baby for hours at a time, and figuring out a few quirks I initially found challenging, I felt it was time for a more thorough review. Here’s how I honestly rate the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier in 11 key categories.
Design: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is probably the most obvious reason I was initially drawn to the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier: it’s a really beautiful baby carrier. Baby gear takes over your life quickly, and I appreciate when something I use every day actually looks like something I would have chosen for myself. The Wildbird Aerial baby carrier has a much more minimal, streamlined look than a lot of traditional structured baby carriers. Wildbird offers a ton of beautiful colors and fabrics, so there are options for every parent, whether you want something completely neutral or a little more interesting.
I also love that the branding is subtle. There isn’t a giant logo across the carrier; just a small leather Wildbird tag that feels intentional rather than overly branded. Of course, aesthetics aren’t the most important thing when choosing a baby carrier…Safety, fit, and comfort matter much more. But if I’m going to wear something for hours at a time and in basically all of the photos taken of me during this stage of motherhood, I appreciate that it looks good, too.
Design rating: 5/5
Ease of Use: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
There was definitely a learning curve when I first started using the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier. I had a particularly hard time figuring out how to adjust the snaps for the infant seat width, and the way the waist belt loops back through itself feels a little more complicated than it needs to be.
After trying several times, I eventually gave up on Wildbird’s recommended process for putting on the carrier. What works much better for me is keeping both shoulder straps buckled (but very loose), putting one arm through before I pick up my baby, and then getting him situated before slipping on the second strap and tightening everything up. After figuring out my own preferred method, I can get the carrier on and my baby securely inside in less than two minutes.
I also really appreciate the little elastic loops that keep the excess straps tucked away. It’s a tiny detail, but it makes the whole carrier feel cleaner and keeps long straps from dangling everywhere (which is especially helpful if you have to go to the bathroom while babywearing). I would say the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier isn’t totally intuitive from day one, but it’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
Ease of use rating: 4/5
Comfort: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’ve worn my son in the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier for several hours at a time, and overall, I find it very comfortable. The shoulder straps are generously padded, and the wide waist belt does a good job distributing his weight rather than making it feel like everything is hanging from my shoulders. That being said, after wearing him for several hours, my shoulders do eventually start to hurt. I’m not sure if there are any baby carriers that could truly make carrying an increasingly heavy baby completely unnoticeable, so I don’t necessarily consider that a major flaw. But I also wouldn’t say that you can wear it indefinitely without feeling anything.
More importantly, my baby seems comfortable and secure in it. The carrier holds him close to my body without feeling flimsy, and I like having the additional flap for a little sun coverage or extra support around him when he falls asleep. (However, I wouldn’t recommend relying on that flap to safely position your baby’s head while asleep in the carrier.)
Comfort rating: 4/5
Temperature: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is probably one of my biggest complaints about the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier: It gets hot. I chose one of the linen fabric options, which I hoped would make it relatively breathable, but my baby and I can both end up pretty sweaty when I wear him for an extended period…especially on warmer days.
I think some of this is simply unavoidable with babywearing. You have two warm bodies pressed together, and there’s only so much any fabric can do about that. But the same thick padding that makes the shoulder straps so comfortable also makes the carrier warmer. I wouldn’t avoid the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier solely because of this, but if you live somewhere particularly hot or plan to do a lot of babywearing outside during the summer, it’s something to consider.
Temperature regulation rating: 3/5
Carry Options: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Wildbird Aerial baby can be worn in two different ways: a parent-facing front carry option and, when your baby is ready, a back-carry option (using the additional strap included with your purchase). It does not offer a world-facing front carry option. This hasn’t been a dealbreaker for me because (so far) I’ve only used the parent-facing position anyway. But if an outward-facing carry option is important to you, it’s a limitation worth knowing before you buy. I actually appreciate that the Aerial doesn’t try to be twelve different carriers in one, but compared with other popular carriers that offer more positions, I can’t give it a full rating here.
Carry options rating: 3/5
Long-Term Use: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Before buying the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier, it’s worth considering that it isn’t really designed to be a newborn-through-toddler solution for every baby. Depending on your baby’s size, you probably won’t be able to use it immediately after birth. My son wasn’t big enough for it until he was over two months old, and I was a little disappointed by that. But now that I’ve tried several baby carriers, I think it’s unlikely that one baby carrier could comfortably (and safely) fit a tiny newborn just as well as it could fit a much bigger baby months later.
The infant seat width on the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier is adjustable, which helps it grow with your baby once they’re within the appropriate size range. If I were starting over and wanted an option specifically for the newborn stage, I’d look at the Wildbird Aerial Buckle Wrap first, and transition to the structured Wildbird Aerial baby carrier later. I actually prefer having a carrier designed for each infant stage, rather than forcing one carrier to do everything.
Long-term use rating: 4/5
Size Inclusivity: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really appreciate the size range offered by the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier. It comes in two sizes meant to span adults sized XS through 4XL, making it a much more inclusive option than brands that assume every parent has roughly the same body. A proper fit matters for comfort, safety, usability, and whether you actually want to reach for it. This is a category where I think Wildbird deserves full credit.
Size inclusivity rating: 5/5
Washability: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
For me, it’s basically non-negotiable that baby products need to be machine-washable. Fortunately, the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier can be machine-washed. I put mine on a delicate cycle inside a mesh laundry bag, which has worked well after hundreds of hours of use and dozens of washes.
The downside is that it can’t go in the dryer. That means once I wash it, I can’t use my carrier until it air-dries…which is mildly inconvenient when it’s something I use almost every day. Even as a minimalist mom, this has made me consider owning two of the exact same carrier.
Washability rating: 4/5
Break-In Period: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
My Wildbird Aerial baby carrier was noticeably stiff when it arrived. It wasn’t unusable, but it didn’t immediately have that soft, lived-in feeling I was hoping for—especially considering I chose the linen version. After washing it a couple of times, it softened considerably. Now the fabric feels much nicer, but I do want to emphasize that the carrier you pull out of the box may not feel exactly like the one you’ve seen someone wearing every day for six months. Just give it some time.
Break-in period rating: 3/5
Value: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Wildbird Aerial baby carrier isn’t a budget baby carrier, but it also isn’t at the very top end of the structured carrier market. For me, the price feels justified by how frequently I use it. It’s genuinely part of our everyday life, and anything that makes it easier for me to leave the house, travel, go for walks, and have two hands free earns some extra value in my mind.
There are certainly less expensive structured carriers available, such as the Mabe Monarch, while “luxury” carriers like the Artipoppe cost considerably more. Whether the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier is “worth it” ultimately depends on how much you expect to babywear…if you only plan to use a carrier occasionally, the price may be harder to justify. But if you’re going to reach for it several times a week (or every day, like I often do), the cost makes a lot more sense.
Value rating: 4/5
Unboxing: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Is beautiful packaging necessary for a baby carrier? Absolutely not. But did I still appreciate it? Absolutely.
The brand does a really nice job with the entire experience of receiving the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier. The packaging and marketing materials feel thoughtful and elevated, and (more importantly) the included instruction guide is clear and easy to understand. For a product that you’re trusting to safely hold your baby, good instructions aren’t just a nice branding detail…they’re essential. It also makes the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier feel particularly giftable if you’re buying one for a baby shower or new mom.

So…Is the Wildbird Aerial Baby Carrier Really Worth It?
For me, yes. After averaging my ratings across all ten categories, the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier earns 4 out of 5 stars.
Average Rating Across All Categories: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sure, it’s not perfect…I wish it were a little cooler, I wish it softened faster, and I wish washing it didn’t mean waiting for it to air dry. And it took me some trial and error before putting it on felt completely natural. But those complaints are relatively minor compared with the reasons I keep reaching for it: it’s supportive, comfortable, beautiful, and easy for me to use now that I’ve figured out my system.
The Wildbird Aerial baby carrier has made it easier for me to actually do things with my baby—not because I’m trying to be productive every second of motherhood, but because having a little more freedom as a first-time mom is important to me. For my baby and me, the Wildbird Aerial baby carrier has definitely earned a place in our home.
